Our shuttle
service is limited, operating four shuttles daily between the hostel
and the national park:
|
TO PARK from hostel |
TO HOSTEL from Park
|
| 6:35 AM |
5:30 PM |
| 8:20 AM |
9:30 PM |
SHUTTLES MUST AND DO LEAVE ON TIME! YOU NEED TO BE PREPARED TO BE ON THE VAN AT THE DEPARTURE TIME. IF YOU ARE SECONDS LATE, YOU WILL BE LEFT BEHIND.
Please reserve space in advance AND sign up on the shuttle board just outside the office!
In addition, if you need transportation at sometime other than the normally scheduled times we will try to accommodate you. It will depend on the availability of the shuttle and someone to drive it. The price is $50 for up to 14 people anywhere between "The Canyon" and the park on the north to Cantwell on the South. The van will not wait for you. In other words, if you hire the shuttle to take you to The Canyon and you want to spend a couple of hours and return, you will have to pay for two shuttle trips. Contact us at any time for advice or to reserve a shuttle. Our shuttle service is available for use for guests and employees of neighboring properties on a space available basis.
|
Keep
in mind that we are 14 miles, or a 20-minute drive, south of the
Park entrance.
All shuttles are available to pick up and drop off at McKinley Village, just let us know.
You can use the shuttles on their "back" trips. That is in the morning you can take a shuttle back to the hostel and in the evening you can take a shuttle to the park as well. You MUST reserve for this so we know to look for you. Shuttles will not wait for you.
TO PARK
Our shuttle service
leaves the hostel daily at 6:35 AM, getting you to the Park WILDERNESS ACCESS CENTER (WAC), where all park shuttle bus tours begin, before 7:00 AM. We also
provide a shuttle to the Park area at 8:20 AM., arriving at the WAC
entrance at about 8:40 AM.
|
This
means that you shouldn't make reservations for the Park shuttle
buses before 7 AM unless you have your own vehicle.
|
FROM PARK
Our shuttle service
picks up at the Park WILDERNESS ACCESS CENTER (WAC), near the flag pole**, at 5:30 PM
and 9:30 PM daily. PLEASE let us know in advance if you will be
needing a shuttle so that we are looking for you, and know we have space for you. Remember, you are the one responsible to be in the right place at the right time.
If you are arriving
by train or bus from Fairbanks or Anchorage, we recommend
that you go to the WAC while waiting for our 5:30 PM
shuttle. This is a great opportunity to find out about the Park,
pick up your tour tickets and make reservations for tomorrow's Park
tour buses. There are free shuttles that will transport you between the WAC and the Visitors Center. At the Visitors Center, you can check your bags and go for a hike on one of the many entrance area trails. The Morino Grill and park book store are adjacent to the Visitors Center. Rafting is also close by.
There are other restaurants and gift shops just outside the park entrance, in the commercial district known as The Canyon! Click here for a map of entrance area hiking trails.
- If you will be arriving
by train, there is a free Park shuttle that will take
you from the Visitor's Center (very near the train station) to the WILDERNESS ACCESS CENTER (WAC). The distance
between the train depot and the WAC is about a mile.
There is also a foot path that you could enjoy if you aren't carrying
too much luggage.
- If you are arriving
by bus from Fairbanks, Anchorage or Talkeetna, you will be dropped at the WAC where
we will pick you up at 5:30 PM.
|
**OUR
SHUTTLE VAN PICTURED BELOW PICKS UP AT THE FRONT ENTRANCE TO THE WILDERNESS ACCESS CENTER,
NEAR THE FLAG POLE. STAND AT THE FLAG POLE LOOKING AT THE ENTRANCE TO THE WAC, THE LOCATION WHERE WE PICK YOU UP IS TO YOUR RIGHT! THERE ARE BUSES AND DRIVEWAYS BOTH WAYS, REMEMBER WE PICKUP TO RIGHT! The walkway curves to the left as you go RIGHT.
LOOK
FOR A WHITE 15-PASSENGER VAN THAT MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE A TRAILER ATTACHED!

You must let us know IN ADVANCE if you
will require a shuttle so that we can reserve space for
you. IF you plan to be coming back to the hostel after 5:30 PM,
we operate a 9:30 PM shuttle, but only on an "as needed" basis, so you MUST RESERVE. We can't stress enough that you should make your plans
early. It is light almost all night here in the summer and
you might like to be in the Park later than 5:30 PM. Unless
you reserve a 9:30 PM shuttle with us, you must be on the 5:30 PM
shuttle or find a ride with another guest. THERE IS NO WAY
FOR YOU TO RETURN TO THE HOSTEL FROM THE PARK AFTER 9:30 PM
UNLESS YOU FIND A RIDE WITH SOMEONE ELSE; HITCHHIKE; PAY FOR AN EXPENSIVE TAXI OR SHUTTLE (WHICH MAY OR MAY NOT BE AVAILABLE); OR WALK
THE 13 MILES. The only other alternative is a $400 room at one of the
hotels near the Park entrance if available. If your plans change, just call and let us know. Remember, be at the right place at the right time, we won't go looking for you. The shuttles leave ON TIME. |
